Social Welfare Counseling

Social Welfare Counseling is a broad field that draws upon multiple perspectives to prevent and solve a variety of issues arising from modern society and to contribute to social welfare. We will allow our students to explore core areas of public welfare, including social science, and grow up as professional counselors that will help local communities, such as individuals, families, organizational and multicultural families (including North Korean defectors) by undertaking practical placements to ensure their learning can be put into practice, thereby serving the future of Korea and humanity.

Courses

  • Family CounselingWe aim to help our students grow up as counselors specializing in solutions to family issues covering marriage, couples and families, who understand families functioning in modern society.
  • Youth CounselingThe purpose of this course is to explore core areas of youth Counseling to deeply understand problems and concerns that young people are facing and understand optimal solutions and strategies for youth. Focusing on the developmental transitions and milestones of adolescents and understanding their psychological characteristics, students will explore the psychological causes underlying behaviors and thoughts, thereby gaining various knowledge and skills.
  • Social Welfare Counseling for the ElderlyThis course aims to foster experts that can contribute to improving the quality of life of the elderly and further enhancing Korean society’s dynamism as a super-aging society. We will provide with you elderly welfare policies, programs, facilities and practical skills to ensure they can comprehensively understand the issues and obstacles the elderly population is facing. Social welfare consulting for the elderly covers major issues in old age, such as a generation gap, abuse, caregiving stress, sex, indigence, death and bereavement.
  • Social WelfareWe foster future-oriented experts who respect human beings and have advanced welfare knowledge gained from practical placement. Our students will learn tailored policies to meet recipients’ needs, prevent or solve problems, and allow recipients to have stronger resilience and better lives, thereby implementing a modern welfare society in the 21st century. This course allows them to have the creative and global capability in various areas through academic learning and practical placement.
  • Education of Correctional CounselingCorrectional Counseling is a course to train professional counselors and research personnel for the prevention of juvenile delinquency and crime through education, guidance, and Counseling. The course will prepare you for a career in a range of fields. You will graduate able to demonstrate comprehensive and practical knowledge of the causes of delinquency, theory and psychology, and competency in corrections and Counseling. Potential careers include youth correction agencies, youth Counseling agencies, Counseling researchers, and school counselors at all levels. Currently, juvenile delinquency and crime are on the rise, and thus more manpower is required.
