Privacy Policy

All personal information handled by Seoul Venture University (“SVU”) is collected, retained and processed in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act of the Republic of Korea, and SVU discloses here the Privacy Policy to protect the personal information and rights and interests of information providers and to properly handle relevant grievances.

Article 1 (Purpose of Processing Personal Information)

We collect and use the following personal information for the purposes as stated below. The personal information will not be used for any purpose other than the following purposes, and we will take necessary measures when any change occurs in the purposes of use, such as obtaining additional prior consent.

  • A. Website Management For the purposes of identification, verification, authentication, eligibility, qualification, prevention of illegal use of services, notification, and record retention for the handling of complaints and grievances and dispute settlement.
  • B. Affairs Related to Complaints and Grievances For the purposes of identification, investigation, and notification of progress and/or results.
  • C. Services For the purposes of providing services (including but not limited to admission, events, students, studies, publications, guide and promotion) and content, and verification.
  • D. Likeness & Portrait For the purposes of security and fire prevention.

Article 2. Retention and Usage Period of Personal Information

For more details on the disclosure of information registered in SVU’s personal information files, please visit the website of the Personal Information Protection Commission (www.privacy.go.kr) and go to the menu “Personal Information Request” > “Request Access to Personal Information” > “Search a Personal Information File List.” Enter the “Seoul Venture University” as the institute name.

Article 3. Sharing of Personal Information with Third Parties

  • A. SUV will provide personal information to third parties only when it falls under Articles 17 and 18 of the Personal Information Protection Act, for example, when obtaining prior consent from the data subject or demanded by the laws.
  • B. SUV will not provide personal information to any third parties without the prior consent of the data subject.

Article 4. Entrustment of Personal Information

  • B. In accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act, SVU specifies the prevention of personal information processing for other purposes than the entrusting purpose, technical and managerial safeguards of personal information, restriction of repeating entrustment, entrustment management and supervision, and liability and other responsibilities, supervision of entrustees to ensure the safe processing of personal information.
  • C. SVU shall immediately update this privacy statement to notify of any changes to the details of entrusted operations or entrustees.

Article 5. Rights and Duties of Data Subject and Exercising the Rights

A data subject is entitled to exercise the following rights for the protection of personal information at any time (provided that, if the data subject is under the age of 14, the child’s legal guardian is entitled to access, update, or edit the child’s persona information, to request suspension, and to revoke their consent to the collection and use of data):.

  • A. The data subject is entitled to make a request for access to their personal details in accordance with Article 35 of the “Personal Information Protection Act”, provided that it may be limited as follows in accordance with Article 35 Paragraph 4 of the same Act.

    ① Where an inspection is prohibited or restricted by Acts ;

    ② Where it is apprehended that any third person's life and body may be harmed, or any third person's property and other interests may be unduly infringed on;

    ③ Where a public institution causes any inconvenience while carrying out any of the following affairs:
    (a) Affairs concerning the imposition, collection or refund of taxes; (b) Affairs concerning grade evaluation or the selection of newly enrolled students at schools of each level under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and the Higher Education Act, lifelong education centers under the Lifelong Education Act, and other higher education institutions established under other Acts; (c) Affairs concerning tests of academic ability, functions and employment, and qualification evaluation; (d) Affairs concerning an assessment or decision in progress in connection with the calculation, etc. of compensation or benefits; (e) Affairs concerning an audit and an investigation in progress under other Acts.

  • B. The data subject may make a request for correction of errors in personal information or for deletion in accordance with Article 36 of the “Personal Information Protection Act”, provided that, if other statutes stipulate the particular personal information be collected, the data subject shall not request the deletion thereof.
  • C. The data subject is entitled to request a suspension of processing personal information in accordance with Article 37 of the “Personal Information Protection Act”, provided that the personal information manager may reject a request from a data subject to suspend management in any of the following cases:

    ① Where there exists special provisions in any Act or it is inevitable to comply with statutory obligations;

    ② Where it is apprehended that any third person's life and body may be harmed, or any third person's property and other interests may be unduly infringed on;

    ③ Where a public institution is unable to conduct its affairs stipulated by or under other Acts unless it manages personal information;

    ④ Where it is impractical to perform a contract, such as a failure to provide a data subject with stipulated services unless the personal information manager manages personal information, and the data subject fails to clearly express his or her intention to terminate the contract.

Article 6. Destruction of Personal Information

SUV will destroy personal information immediately once the purpose of collection and use of the information is achieved in principle. However, it shall not be applied to personal information that needs to be preserved in accordance with other Acts. The procedures, terms and methods of destructing personal information are as follows:

  • Procedures: Personal details provided for subscription will be transferred to a separate database (or a separate filing cabinet if printed) and retained according to internal policies and other applicable laws and regulations; it will be destroyed after a certain period. Personal information transferred to a separate database will not be used for any purposes other than retention, unless required by applicable laws.
  • Restrictions: If the personal information file becomes unnecessary due to the achievement of the processing of the personal information file, abolition of the relevant service and the end of the business, the personal information file shall be destroyed within five (5) days from the day that recognizes the processing of the personal information is no longer needed.
  • Methods: Personal information stored as an electronic file is destroyed using a technical or physical method such that records cannot be reproduced, and personal information printed on paper is shredded or destroyed by incineration.

Article 7. Measures to Ensure the Safety of Personal Information

SVU shall implement the following technical, managerial and physical measures to ensure the safety of personal information in accordance with Article 29 of the Personal Information Protection Act.

  • A. Maintaining a minimum number of personal information handlers and training SVU has measures in place to designate a minimum number of personal information handlers for the management of personal information.
  • B. Regular self-inspection SUV conducts self-inspection at least once a year to ensure the safety of handling personal information,
  • C . Establishment and implementation of an internal management plan SVU establishes and implements an internal management plan in accordance with the “Guidelines for Ensuring the Safety of Personal Information.”
  • D. Encryption of personal information Users’ personal information is encrypted for storage and management. SUV also takes additional security measures for encryption when storing and transferring important data.
  • E. Installation of security programs and regular inspection and renewal Hoseo University installs security programs and regularly inspects and renews them to prevent any personal information leakage or damage caused by hacking or computer viruses.
  • F. Limited access to personal information SVU takes necessary measures to limit access to personal information by granting, modifying and cancelling access rights to the personal information processing database system and runs an intrusion prevention system to deny unauthorized access from outside.
  • G. Storing access records and preventing forgery and alteration SVU stores access records to personal information processing for at least six months, and uses the security system to prevent forgery, theft, and loss of access records.
  • H. Access control for unauthorized persons SUV sets up a separate physical vault for personal information and establishes access control procedures.

The data subject may make a request for access to personal information through the Personal Information Protection Portal (www.privacy.go.kr) of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, in addition to the departments stipulated in Article 2.
